Veteran actor Sanjay Dutt has always been candid about his life, including the difficult years he spent behind bars. In a recent interaction, the actor opened up about how he kept himself motivated during his prison sentence by channeling his energy into creativity and performance.
Theatre With Convicts
Sharing his experience, Dutt revealed that his passion for acting helped him cope with the mental and emotional strain of incarceration. He said he even formed a theatre group inside the jail, with murder convicts taking up roles as actors.
> “I don’t regret anything that has happened in my life. My main regret is that my parents left me too soon. I really miss them,” Sanjay said emotionally.
Carpentry, Wages, and Discipline
During the conversation, Archana Puran Singh asked the actor what he did with the carpentry work he undertook in prison. Dutt explained that he not only built furniture but also earned wages for his labor.
> “Whether I made chairs or paper bags, I got paid,” he said, highlighting how the prison system ensured discipline and a sense of purpose.
Radio YCP – A Unique Initiative
Sanjay Dutt also spoke about starting an in-prison radio station called Radio YCP. The program, initially available only to inmates, gave him and others a chance to entertain and educate fellow prisoners.
> “I even started a radio station, called Radio YCP. It was once played only inside the jail. I was also paid for that. I did the radio program. We had topics to talk about, and we also did some comedy. Three or four other prisoners would write the script for the program,” he revealed.
Finding Light in Darkness
Despite the circumstances, Sanjay Dutt found ways to stay creative and positive. His experiences reflect resilience, transformation, and a deep reliance on art as a healing medium.
Today, as he continues his successful run in Bollywood, Dutt looks back at his prison years not with bitterness but with a sense of learning. For him, the memories of lost parents remain his only true regret.
